Cde Murechu Shines at Nkulumane Debate as ZANUPF Momentum Builds

A spirited meet-the-candidate debate held at Nkulumane Hall on 10 December 2025 produced a strong and encouraging showing for ZANUPF’s Cde Freedom Murechu. With more than a thousand residents and supporters in attendance, the atmosphere reflected growing confidence in the ruling party’s leadership under President E.D. Mnangagwa and the Government’s ongoing development agenda. Audience reactions, including the enthusiastic post-event celebrations, signalled an electorate increasingly aligned with ZANUPF’s message of stability, continuity, and tangible progress. Other candidates included independent Rodney Jele, CCC’s Mothusi “Madlela” Ndlovu, and Esther Zitha, widow of the late Hon. Desire Moyo.

Cde Murechu distinguished himself through clarity, composure, and a strong command of policy issues. His intelligent and confident engagement with even the most difficult questions demonstrated leadership maturity and a deep understanding of community priorities. This intellectual steadiness mirrors the broader ethos of the Second Republic – disciplined, solutions-focused, and committed to delivering measurable improvements in people’s lives.

The reception towards Jele revealed public frustration with personalities associated with past governance controversies at local authority level. The community’s reaction suggested a clear appetite for the responsible, accountable leadership model that President Mnangagwa and ZANUPF continue to champion.

Ndlovu’s late arrival and uneven performance further emphasised the contrast between candidates shaped by ZANUPF’s culture of organisational discipline and those whose campaigns appear unstructured or emotionally inconsistent. Voters clearly valued preparedness, emotional balance, and policy literacy.

Meanwhile, Zitha’s objections to the holding of the debate, coupled with emerging personal controversies surrounding her candidacy, seemed to weaken her credibility with the electorate. While private matters should not dominate political discourse, the broader implication was evident: communities gravitate towards leaders who project stability, transparency, and alignment with national development priorities.

Overall, Cde Freedom Murechu emerged as the most credible, articulate, and community-oriented candidate. His strong performance reflects both his individual strengths and the wider appeal of ZANUPF’s governance record under President Mnangagwa – especially in this period of infrastructure expansion, economic stabilisation, and renewed focus on grassroots development. If momentum continues at this pace, Cde Murechu is well positioned to secure a convincing and well-deserved victory.
